Course Description:
This three-day course will detail the role law enforcement officers play in combating elder abuse. Attendees will learn the many classifications for Florida’s licensed facilities, in addition to Medicaid certified facilities and their common problems. Students will receive a more comprehensive look at neglect and self-neglect; elder and dependent adult abuse; and sexual abuse. In addition, attendees will be taken beyond Chapter 825, Florida Statutes, to explore other statutes that can aid in prosecuting elder crimes, as well as practical investigative techniques, and the latest legislative changes. The attendees will examine the court process and will receive resources to assist them with their investigations. This course is designed for patrol officers, crime prevention officers; community oriented policing officers, investigators, victim advocates, medical professionals and those who interact with the elderly.
