Course Description:
This three-day (24 hour class) is specifically designed to evaluate hospitals and their surrounding properties utilizing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies. Participants will assess the relationship between the design and the use of space at hospitals and how it affects criminal activity and human behavior. Students will evaluate the existing physical environment and apply CPTED strategies to reduce opportunities of crime and will meet the facility's risk management parameters. Course attendees will take part in on-site hospital CPTED audits. Attendees should be aware that basic CPTED principles are the foundation of this training and will be reviewed as part of the course curriculum. For experienced CPTED attendees, the first day will be a review of those concepts with an emphasis on hospitals. This curriculum will also accommodate those who have never attended a CPTED course. This class is recommended for hospital security and safety personnel, architects, facility management, and law enforcement personnel.
