Due to additional officers being assigned to school campuses, this three-day class was developed to provide officers with some basic tools to prepare and acclimate them to the school setting. Topics to be addressed are: school layout; understanding the school population; developing a working relationship with the school administration; statutes pertaining to school issues such as searches, possession of weapons, trespass, bullying, probable cause vs. reasonable suspicion; reading Miranda; and more. School safety plans and scenarios will be discussed. This interactive course will spark thought-provoking questions and increase the officer’s knowledge base for the officer’s new assignment.
