A major portion of an SRO’s time deals with social media issues such as: stolen or missing cell phones, laptops, tablets, gaming devices, cyber-bullying, stalking, solicitation, and more. This class will provide information that they can use to educate the parent/guardian, school staff, their community, and the students of the dangers that lurk in the cyber world. They will learn how to use social media to spread the word about these issues via facebook, twitter, youtube. Also, they will be taught the proper techniques when responding to these reports and investigation techniques. There will be a legal update as it pertains to technology with legal ramifications and case examples. The participant will leave with a certification & supporting documents from the Attorney General’s Office to teach their Cyber Safety presentation to parents/guardian and students that they serve. They will be given a list of free websites for SROs to use for presentations and recommended parental sites.
