Course Description: |
“Aging Issues: A Comprehensive Approach” will give the students an understanding of the impact aging has on the community and how to develop a comprehensive approach to address these needs. The three-day course provides students with a clearer understanding of the term “Capacity to Consent” and takes an intensive look at addictions that affect our elderly but are often un-noticed. Mental health issues and the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s and Dementia will be briefly discussed. Another growing problem to be examined is that of drug diversion. This course will also explore the use of multi-disciplinary teams; elder victimization; and takes an in-depth look at wills, trusts and powers of attorney. This course is designed for patrol officers, crime prevention officers, community oriented policing officers, investigators, victim advocates, medical professionals and those who interact with the elderly.
*This course is one of three courses necessary for the Florida Elder Crime Practitioner designation.
