Course Description:
In response to requests for further School Resource Officer (SRO) training, this class is a follow-up to the Intermediate Course. Taking the Intermediate Course is NOT a prerequisite to this class. This three-day course will enhance the skills of the experienced SRO and provide information on various topics, for example. There will be a review of new legislation and case law as it relates to the SRO. Since school campuses are miniature cities with multiple personalities and individuals with distinctive needs, SROs will learn how to interact and respond to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, while insuring the safety and security of everyone involved.
Participants will discuss incidents of school violence and actions that can be taken through environmental design to reduce vulnerability. In addition, participants will learn about the latest technological devices students have at home and are bringing to schools and what they are seeing on the Internet.
