| Course Description: |
Advances in technology occur rapidly making it difficult to keep up with the changes, benefits and dangers. For example, Bluetooth technology on smart phones and mobile devices can be used to intercept phone calls and information; and “Geotagging” can be used to determine someone’s physical location. While the internet can be a resource for amazing information, it can be very dangerous for survivors of domestic violence and stalking. This course partners a trained domestic violence advocate and an information technology specialist to educate victim advocates on technology risks. Advocates will learn about privacy issues, safety planning, strategies for survivors using the internet, as well as, the use of email, social networking sites and community databases. In addition, advocates will receive information on how to safely navigate the ever changing world of technology while keeping victims and survivors safe.
