Course Description: |
The five-day SRO Basic Training course provides the participant with the history, philosophy and basic skills to serve as an SRO. Participants will receive instruction in juvenile law, counseling skills, development of a referral network, identification and ways to handle exceptional students, and classroom training techniques. In addition, participants will learn about current trends in SRO programs, law-related education and adolescent suicide.
The course is offered primarily for law enforcement personnel who have been involved in school-based programs for less than three years. School administrators and persons interested in increasing their knowledge of the SRO program will benefit from this training. The curriculum is approved by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission as an "Advanced Course" and is a salary incentive course for law enforcement officers who successfully complete an exam.
ATTENTION -- PLEASE NOTE THESE REQUIREMENTS:
The Attorney General's Office is pleased to be invited to once again work with FASRO in offering SRO training. Since the SRO Basic Training Class is an FDLE "Advanced Class" that allows officers to earn re-training hours or receive salary incentive dollars, this class must be strictly in compliance with FDLE standards and procedures. Therefore, this class will be held concurrently with the conference. This means officers in the SRO Basic Training Class will not be able to attend regular conference sessions during the day. HOWEVER, FASRO has invited the attendees to participate in all of the after hour functions without paying the conference registration fee.
Participants attending the SRO Basic Training must register and pay the $395.00 registration fee to FCPTI. Participants will NOT pay a FASRO Conference registration fee. For lodging, please contact the Orlando Hilton Lake Buena Vista, 1751 Hotel Plaza Boulevard, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. The room rate is $99.00 a night.
